By John M. Sherrard

(Walnut) Mt. SAC Men's basketball team began a three-game, non-conference schedule before the Christmas break and fell in double overtime to visiting Bakersfield College, 94-88, Tuesday night.

The Mounties (8-6) held a six point lead, 69-63, with less than two minutes remaining in the game after a 3-pointer by freshman guard Corey Grant but saw the Renegades (9-6) score the last six points in regulation to send the game into overtime.

Mt. SAC got off to a hot start to begin the first overtime as freshman guard Josh Johnson scored the first seven points, including a monster dunk with 3:13 left for a 76-69 lead.

However, an 11-4 run by Bakersfield to end the OT sent the exciting game into a second extra period.

In the second OT with Bakersfield leading, 87-84, Johnson scored on a running layup to trail by one point, 87-86 but the Renegades went on another run, 7-2, to pull off the win.

Leading the way in scoring for the Mounties was sophomore guard Nick Brown with 16 points (6 of 12 FG, 3-5 FT). Also in double figures were freshmen guards Desmond Knox with 14 points (5 of 7 FG, 4-4 3 pointers) and Josh Johnson with 10 points (4-7 FG, 3 steals).

Brown added eight rebounds for the Mounties and sophomore F/C Damarcus Carter had six. Overall Mt. SAC brought down 35 boards (15 off., 20 def.), but Bakersfield almost doubled up on the Mounties with 61. In addition the Renegades were 36 of 49 (73 %) at the charity stripe.

Mt. SAC will host College of the Desert on Thursday. Game time is 6:00pm.
