(Walnut, CA) Hopes for a repeat men's basketball state championship were erased, as Ventura College (17-12), defeated the Mt. SAC Mounties (15-11), 82-67 in first round CCCAA Play-Off action.  The Mounties were within 7 points at half time (36-29) and two points in the second half, however, the visitng Pirates went on a shooting spree, shooting over 80% from the floor and 90% fom the free throw line, to defeat the reigning champions by 15.  For the Mounties, Daniel Thompson led the team with 27 points, with Stephaun Branch and Sam Holmes, scoring 12 a piece.
