Scoring is Back for Mt. SAC Football!

(Covina, CA) After being shutout for the first time in 160 games last week, points have returned to the scoreboard for the Mt. SAC Football Team in a big way with a, 44-26, victory over East Los Angeles College.  In the Saturday night CCCAA National Division , the Mounties had two special teams touchdowns and three TD passes from quarterback Steven Nava.  

"It was nice to get back on track with a great win against East L.A.," replied Mt. SAC Head Coach Bob Jastrab. "All three phases contributed to the victory. The players gave us a great effort and made big plays when we needed them."

Nava was 13 of 30 for 210 yards with two interceptions.  The special teams contributed 14 points on a blocked punt by Compton Rosetta, that was recovered and scored by Montez Evans and a 92-yard kickoff return touchdown by wide receiver Damian Alloway.

Running backs Rachaad White (53 yards on 9 carries) and Hykeem Massey (45 yards on 8 carries and a touchdown, led the Mounties ground attack.

Nava's favorite receiver was Chris Jackson (6 catches, 82 yards, TD). Alloway (1 catch, 49 yards) and Gaston Bouchereau (2 catches, 40 yards) also caught one touchdown each.

Defensively, Ibrahim Konate had two interceptions that he returned for a total of 98 yards.

The Mounties (3-1), who have averaged 44 points in their three wins this season, took a 10-0 lead on a 33-yard field goal by Gabriel Dunkle and the Rosetta blocked punt/Evans return.

The Huskies would tied the game at 10 midway through the second quarter.

With 3:37 left in the half, Nava threw his first TD pass to Bouchereau (28 yards), giving the Mounties a 17-10 going into the locker room.

The lead quickly disappeared on the first ELAC possession of the second half, as the Huskies drove 85 yards to tie the game at 17.

Mt. SAC then opened up to outscore the Huskies, 27-9, on TD passes to Jackson (32 yards) and Alloway (49 yards), the kickoff return by Alloway and a 27-yard rushing TD by Massey late in the game.

The Mounties will next travel to take on Saddleback College for a National Division game on Saturday, September 29the, at Mission Viejo High School. Game time is 6:00 pm.
