Walnut, Calif. – The regular season is starting to wind down, but the Mt. SAC Baseball Team is NOT.

The Mounties defeated Mt. San Jacinto College 7-3 in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, improving to 23-16 overall and remaining in a strong second place in the South Coast Conference at 19-5.

The Eagles drop to 21-18 overall and sit third in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference.

As a reminder, El Camino leads the SCC at 18-4 with two conference games left against Pasadena City College. If things break right, the Mounties could still find themselves in a tie—or even on top.

But hey – let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Back to the game at hand….

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Eagles earned the first run of the game in the top of the first when starting Mt. SAC pitcher Brock Foulds issued a bases loaded walk to Alex Pintal, scoring Justin Granado.

The Mounties responded in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly from Nick Mejia and a double from Jackson Giacone, taking a 2-1 lead.

Mt. San Jacinto evened things up in the third with a sacrifice fly, but Giacone delivered again in the bottom half—this time with a sac fly of his own—to put Mt. SAC back on top. Frankie Brazil added to the lead in the fourth with an RBI single, scoring Ryan Castro to make it 4-2.

The Eagles pulled within one at 4-3 in the seventh, but that was as close as it would get.

But the Mounties finished strong, adding three additional runs. Chip Merts grounded out to bring home Tyler Primanto.

Andrew Alva followed with an RBI single – his 44th of the season, entering a three-way tie for the most RBIs in the South Coast Conference along with Cuellar from Cerritos and Nunez from El Camino.

Then, fittingly, Brock Foulds had the final word. After starting the game on the mound, he stepped up to the plate in the eighth and delivered an RBI double to score Giacone and cap the scoring at 7-3.

It was an interesting day on the mound for Mt. SAC, as they cycled through six pitchers to get the job done, combining for three strikeouts. Both teams finished with 11 hits, but the difference came down to execution—the Mounties made theirs count as the Eagles struggled to find momentum.

NEXT UP:

The Mounties close out their regular season on the road with game two against Mt. San Jacinto on Thursday, April 23. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
