Walnut, Calif. – Buckle up, because this one got out of hand fast. The Mt. SAC Baseball Team came out swinging and never let up, steamrolling Long Beach City College in a jaw-dropping 26-4 blowout at Mazmanian Field.
The Mounties are officially on fire —stretching their win streak to ten games while improving to 21-15 overall and holding strong at the top of the SCC standings at 18-4. As for the Vikings, they drop to 15-19 (11-9 SCC) after a long day at the yard.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mt. SAC got off to a hot start, exploding for four runs in the opening inning. Andrew Alva got things rolling with an RBI double that brought home Frankie Brazil, and the momentum kept building as Nick Mejia, Hudson Karczynski, and Ryan Castro each delivered RBI hits to quickly make it 4-0.
Long Beach showed a brief spark in the second inning when Erick Espinoza tripled to drive in Carson Slager, trimming the deficit to 4-1.
But any hope of a comeback was quickly shut down as the Mounties responded in dominant fashion. Mejia came through again with a two-RBI double, Chip Mertz capitalized on a Vikings miscue to score, and Jackson Giacone launched a towering three-run home run that blew the game open and pushed Mt. SAC into double digits at 10-1.
The Vikings managed to add another run in the top third, but the Mounties continued to apply pressure.
Mertz came home on a passed ball, and the offensive surge only intensified in the fourth inning.
Tyler Primanto crushed a solo home run, while additional RBI hits from Mertz and Alva kept the bases moving. Another run crossed the plate on a Long Beach balk, stretching the lead to a commanding 15-2.
Long Beach added two more runs in the sixth inning, but Mt. SAC had plenty left in the tank.
Brock Foulds doubled to bring in Brady Stull, setting the stage for another electrifying moment as Giacone delivered again—this time launching a grand slam that sent the Mounties past the 20-run mark and ignited the crowd.
But – they still were not finished!
The offense kept rolling with RBI hits from Foulds, Mario Cuadros, and AC Nieto. With the bases loaded, Primanto was hit by a pitch to force in a run, and Stull followed by drawing a walk with the bases loaded to cap off the scoring at an incredible 26 runs on the day.
Tomas Bilvado put together a strong outing, going six innings while allowing just three earned runs and striking out eight. The bullpen trio of Seth Sumner, Jack Rudometkin, and Brett Maloof each handled an inning in relief to close things out.
