Walnut, Calif. – After dropping the opening game of the series earlier this week, the Mt. SAC Baseball Team bounced back with a 4–0 victory over Cerritos College on Thursday, March 12, evening the important South Coast Conference matchup.

The Mounties improve to 10–13 overall and 7–4 in SCC play, while Cerritos moves to 12–10 overall and 8–3 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

There were no big firework homeruns, just slow and steady hitting that moved the bases along and built the Mounties up to a four-run lead to take game two of the series.

Hudson Karczynski singled in the bottom of the first, driving in Chip Mertz to put the Mounties on the board.

Mt. SAC added another run in the third inning when Mario Cuadros delivered a sacrifice fly that allowed Nick Mejia to score, extending the Mounties' advantage to 2–0.

The Mounties added two more runs in the seventh inning. Chip Mertz crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and Brock Fields followed with a sacrifice fly to right field that brought home Ryan Castro to make it 4–0.

Hudson Castillo delivered an outstanding start for Mt. SAC, earning his third win of the season. Castillo pitched seven strong innings, allowing three hits with no earned runs while striking out four.

Seth Sumner and Juan Verduzco each pitched an inning of relief, recording a strikeout apiece to close out the shutout victory for the Mounties.

The win also snapped a three-game losing streak for Mt. SAC.
