Long Beach, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Baseball Team opened their final regular season series in emphatic fashion, rolling past Long Beach City College with an 18-1 blowout on Tuesday, April 22. The win boosts the Mounties to an impressive 33-5 overall and 20-2 in South Coast Conference play, while the Vikings drop to 19-19 overall and 12-10 in the SCC.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In a one-sided contest that nearly ended in a shutout, Mt. SAC got on the board in the top of the second when Cole Nachreiner singled to right, driving in Miguel Perez. The Mounties kept the pressure on in the third, adding three more runs—Landon White lifted a sac fly to bring in a run, Bryan Bradshaw scored on a wild pitch, and Ty Thomas crossed the plate on a fielder's choice—giving Mt. SAC an early 4-0 advantage.

Thomas stayed hot in the fourth, ripping a two-RBI single to center to score White and Bradshaw. In the fifth, Noah Rodriguez's double to right plated Nachreiner, and RBI hits by Thomas and Perez in the sixth stretched the lead to 9-0.

Mt. SAC exploded for nine runs in the seventh inning, capitalizing on Long Beach errors and timely hitting. Jackson Giacone walked in a run, Tyler Stull scored on a wild pitch, and Diego Villa came home after Rodriguez was hit by a pitch. Key hits from Thomas, Stull, and Giacone capped the scoring at 18 runs.

Long Beach avoided the shutout in the eighth when Ryan Lopetegui singled to left, scoring Myles Fendrick for the Vikings' lone run.

On the mound, Izeah Muniz was dominant. The right-hander threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out 10. Joey Peralta and Jaden Mackowiak each pitched an inning in relief, and Ethan Corral closed things out in the ninth.
