Compton, Calif. – In a game that felt more like batting practice than a conference matchup, the Mt. San Antonio College Baseball Team completed a commanding sweep of Compton College with a 24-0 blowout on Saturday, April 12. The win boosts the Mounties to an impressive 29-5 overall record and 16-2 in South Coast Conference play. The Tartars, meanwhile, drop to 7-26 overall and 4-14 in the SCC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The offensive fireworks began in the top of the fourth inning, when Tyler Stull launched a leadoff homer to put Mt. SAC on the board. Moments later, Terrell Jackson Jr. cleared the bases with a grand slam, followed by a two-run homer from Ty Thomas. Stull returned to the plate and capped off the explosive inning just as it began - with his second solo shot, giving the Mounties an 8-0 lead.
The fifth inning saw more of the same. Jackson Jr. crushed his second home run of the game, Bryan Bradshaw scored on an error, and Stull continued his monster day with a three-run blast—his third homer of the day—to stretch the lead to 13-0.
The offensive onslaught didn't let up. With doubles from Stull, Miguel Perez, Bradshaw, and Jackson Jr., along with a sac fly by Jackson Giacone, a single from Diego Villa, and multiple defensive miscues by Compton, Mt. SAC closed out the game in dominant fashion at 24-0.
On the mound, starter Brenden Menchaca set the tone, facing 22 batters over five scoreless innings. He allowed just six hits, walked one, and struck out five. Relievers Matt Viveros and Sam Silversmith kept the Tartars quiet, while Jaden Mackowiak sealed the shutout. Together, the Mt. SAC staff combined for eight hits allowed, 10 strikeouts, and no runs.
On the other hand, Compton cycled through eight pitchers over nine innings, surrendering 23 hits, issuing five walks, and recording only four strikeouts.
