Mountie Baseball victorious in closing game of SCC series against East L.A.

(Walnut, CA) Mt. San Antonio College (18-19, 9-12) pulled to within a game of .500 on the season with a 6-4 South Coast Conference victory over visiting East Los Angeles College (16-21, 13-8) on Saturday, April 22. With the win, the Mounties wound up taking two out of three from the Huskies.

Down 2-0 midway through the third, Mt. SAC scored three runs in the bottom of the inning behind a two-run double by CJ Ontiveros (4-5, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 2B) who scored later in the inning on a fielder's choice single by Blake Hagerty (1-5, 2 RBI) to give the Mounties a 3-2 lead. Mt. SAC tacked on runs in the fifth, sixth, and eighth innings to put the game out of reach for the Huskies, who came up short in spite of a two-run rally in the top of the ninth.

Other top hitters for the Mounties included Damien Delgadillo (2-3, 3 R, RBI, HR) and Joey Rossetti (2-5). Hagerty also stole a base in the winning effort.

Starting pitcher Sam Silversmith (5 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 SO) earned the win, running his record to 4-1 on the season.

Next up, Mt. SAC will open its final three-game SCC series of the season at home against El Camino College (26-11, 16-5) on Tuesday, April 25, at 2:30 p.m. Game 2 will take place in Torrance on Thursday, April 27, at 2:30 p.m. and Game 3 in Walnut on Friday, April 28, at 2:30 p.m. The Warriors currently hold a two-game lead in the SCC standings over Pasadena City College (22-15, 14-7) and Rio Hondo College (21-16, 14-7).
