Baseball: Mounties sweep Compton, prepare for SCC title-deciding series with El Camino

(Walnut, CA) In the closing game of a three-game South Coast Conference series, host Mt. San Antonio College (30-7, 17-4) defeated Compton College (8-28, 4-17) by the score of 13-5 on Saturday, April 23, to sweep the series. The victory keeps the Mounties in first place in the SCC standings, a full game ahead of El Camino College (28-9, 16-5) and Long Beach City College (25-12, 16-5) with three games to play in the regular season.

Trailing 3-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, Mt. SAC took control of the game with five runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth and never looked back.

Top Mountie hitters included Alex Reynozo (4-4, R, 4 RBI, 2B, 3B), Robbie Mansour (2-2, 2 R, RBI, 2B), Brent Cota (2-5, 2 R, RBI), and Nin Burns II (2-5, 2 R, RBI, 2B, 3B).

Blake Borgogno (1-3, 2 R, RBI, 2B) and Elijah Pelayo (1-3, 2 R, 2B) each stole a base for Mt. SAC.

Trent Merrill (4-0) got the win for the Mounties, throwing four innings of relief while allowing two runs (both unearned). Starter Cristian Enriquez pitched four innings, allowed no runs, and struck out four.

With a one-game lead over El Camino in the SCC standings, Mt. SAC will start a three-game series with the Warriors in Torrance on Tuesday, April 26, at 2:30 p.m. Game 2 will be in Walnut on Thursday, April 28, at 2:30 p.m. and Game 3 in Torrance on Friday, April 29, at 2:30 p.m.
