Baseball rallies to earn non-conference win over Ventura, runs win streak to six

(Walnut, CA) Trailing 7-0 in the bottom of the seventh, host Mt. San Antonio College (27-7) exploded for 11 runs to capture an 11-7 non-conference victory against Ventura College (19-15) on Saturday, April 16.

Top hitters for the Mounties included Elijah Pelayo (3-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B), Cristian Enriquez (2-3, R, RBI), Will Bermudez (2-3, 2 R, RBI), Brent Cota (2-5, R, 2 RBI), and Blake Borgogno (1-5, R, RBI, 3B). Jacob Moreno and Pelayo each stole a pair of bases.

Reliever Hunter Holmes (4-0) picked up the win for Mt. SAC, pitching two innings, allowing two runs (one earned), while striking out four. Starter Alec Beck pitched 1.1 innings, allowed three runs (two earned), and struck out one.

Tied with Pasadena City College (26-8, 14-4) atop the South Coast Conference standings, the Mounties will open a three-game SCC series with Compton College (8-25, 4-14) on Tuesday, April 19, at 2:30 p.m. at home. Game 2 will be in Compton on Thursday, April 21, at 2:30 p.m., and Game 3 in Walnut on Saturday, April 23, at 12 p.m.
