
(Walnut, CA) In the first of a three-game South Coast Conference series, host Mt. San Antonio College (10-5, 2-2) defeated Long Beach City College (8-7, 3-1) by the score of 11-5 on Tuesday, March 1.
Trailing 5-1 through five, the Vikings rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth to close the gap to one, 5-4. The Mounties responded with four in the bottom half of the inning and two more in the seventh to seal the win.
Top Mt. SAC hitters included CJ Ontiveros (2-3, R, 3 RBI, 2B), Blake Borgogno (1-2, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2B), and Art Ruiz (1-3, 3 R, 2B). Elijah Pelayo (1-4, R, RBI) stole a base for the Mounties.
Starting pitcher Michael Flores (5-1) picked up the win, throwing 5.2 innings while striking out three.
Game 2 of the series will take place in Long Beach on Thursday, March 3, at 2 p.m., and the final game will be on Saturday, March 5, at 12 p.m. in Walnut.
