Baseball cruises to shutout victory over San Bernardino Valley

(Walnut, CA) Host Mt. San Antonio College (2-0) scored eight runs in the bottom of the second and never looked back, cruising to a 13-0 victory over San Bernardino Valley College (0-2) on Saturday.

Top hitters for the Mounties included Travis Hobbensiefken (2-2, RBI, R, 2B), Damien Delgadillo (2-2, RBI, R, 2B), Robbie Mansour (1-3, 2 RBI, 2 R), and Nin Burns II (1-3, 2 RBI, R).

Mt. SAC also lit it up on the base paths, tallying 10 stolen bases by seven players: Burns II (3), Mansour (2), CJ Ontiveros, Brent Cota, Hector Almarez, Art Ruiz, and Alec Beck.

Starter Michael Ortega (1-0) picked up the win for the Mounties, pitching three innings of shutout ball while striking out four. In total, Mt. SAC pitchers struck out 18 Wolverine batters. The pitchers included Kegan Wentz (5), Damian Torres (4), Ortega (4), Anthony Corrales (3), and Hunter Holmes (2).

The Mounties will face San Bernardino Valley again on Thursday, Feb. 3, in the first round of the David Buttles Memorial Tournament at College of the Desert. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
