Baseball kicks off 2022 season with a big win over Victor Valley

(Walnut, CA) The 2022 baseball season got off to a good start for host Mt. San Antonio College (1-0) on Thursday with a 12-3 win over Victor Valley College (0-1).

Leading 5-2 midway through the fourth, the Mounties exploded for four runs in the bottom of the inning, then added three more in the fifth to take a commanding 12-2 lead. The Rams added another run in the top of the sixth, but to no avail.

Top hitters for Mt. SAC included Brent Cota (3-4, 4 RBI, 2 R, 2B), Nin Burns II (2-5, RBI, 3 R, 2B), and CJ Ontiveros (1-1, 2 RBI, R, 2B).

On the day, seven Mounties stole nine bases: Cota (2), Elijah Pelayo (2), Cristian Enriquez, Ontiveros, Michael Flores, and Blake Borgogno.

Flores (1-0) got the win for Mt. SAC, throwing 3.2 innings, allowing two earned runs, and striking out two. In three innings of relief, Jeffery Isenhart struck out four Victor Valley batters while teammate Trent Merrill fanned three in one inning.

Next up for the Mounties is a home game with San Bernardino Valley College (0-0) on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 12 p.m.
