Fullerton captures come-from-behind victory over Mt. SAC

(Fullerton, CA) In a high-scoring contest, host Fullerton (6-15) rallied with four runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Mt. SAC, 15-14, on Tuesday, May 18.

The Hornets opened up a 6-0 lead through four before the Mounties (9-12) got on the board with a pair of runs in the fifth. Trailing 11-5 through eight, Mt. SAC exploded for nine runs in the top of the ninth to take a 14-11 lead, only to see Fullerton respond with four in the bottom half of the inning to capture the win.

Top Mountie offensive performers included Cole Jordan (2-4, R, 3 RBI), Art Ruiz (2-2, 2 R, RBI), Trevor Caton (2-3, R, 2B, 2 RBI), Joe La Fountain (3-3, 2 R, 2B, RBI), Travis Hobbensiefken (2-2, 2 R, 3B, 3 RBI), and Alex Reynozo (2-2, 2 R, RBI). Nin Burns II (1-4, R, 2B) stole a base for Mt. SAC.

Noah Woodall (0-2) got the loss for the Mounties, surrendering four runs in 0.2 innings of relief. Starter Michael Gutierrez pitched three innings and allowed six runs (all earned).

Game 2 of the four-game series will take place in Fullerton on Thursday, May 20, at 2 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no spectators are allowed.
