(Walnut, CA) Former Mountie Outfielder Elijah Greene becomes the first undrafted free agent signed by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2020.  Greene played for the Mounties during the 2018 season where he hit .428 (3rd highest in the state) and was named South Coast Conference (SCC) North Division Most Valuable Player.

"Elijah played a huge role for us in winning conference and making it to the state finals in 2018," replied Mounties Head Coach John Knott.  "His impact to our program was more than just his batting average and runs scored.  He led by being accountable.  He was a hard worker on and off the field, and was willing to do anything asked of him, regardless of how small.  His attention to detail and leadership trickled down and was a staple for our program."

A product of Chino Hills High School, Greene (L/L) arrived at Mt. SAC after redshirting one season at San Diego State (SDSU).  Originally signed as a pitcher by SDSU, it was his bat that was the consistent and powerful force that led the Mounties to a South Coast Conference Championship and a state finals appearance.  That season, he produced 55 runs, 89 hits, 8 homeruns, 16 doubles, 5 triples and 46 RBI's, in 208 at bats.

Along with his SCC Player of the Year honor, Greene garnered a number of other post season honors including;  SoCal ABCA/Rawlings All Region First Team, California Community College Baseball Coaches Association All-State First Team and ABCA Community College All-American Second Team.

After his one season at Mt. SAC, Greene transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he also made an immediate impact.  In 2019, as the starting right fielder and only Mustang to play in and start all 56 games, he hit .274 with 61 hits, five doubles and three triples, with 17 RBI's.  In the 13 game Covid-19 shortened season of 2020, Greene hit .235, with 8 hits and 4 runs.

Although Greene is the first undrafted free agent signed by the Angels, he is amazingly the second in his family to sign a professional baseball contract this year and the second Mountie from the 2018 team to sign a MLB contract (Anthony Walters-NY Mets).  Greene's younger brother Isaiah (Corona H.S.) was drafted in the second round (69th overall pick) of the MLB Draft by the Mets.  At Mt. SAC, Greene also took care of business in the classroom, receiving his A.A. Degree in the spring of 2018.
