Sandoval homer lifts Mt. SAC to second consecutive SCC North title in win at East L.A.

(Monterey Park, CA) Mt. SAC claimed its second consecutive South Coast Conference North Division title with a 4-2 SCC victory over East Los Angeles on Friday night.

Tied 1-1 through seven, the Mounties (22-17, 14-8) rallied for three runs in the top of the eight to take the lead for good over the host Huskies (16-23-1, 9-12-1).

Mt. SAC scored in its first at bat of the night on a two-out single by Albert Luevano (2-for-4, RBI) that scored Kyle Koontz (1-for-4, R). East L.A. punched a run across in the bottom of the second to tie the score at one.

With runners on first and second and one out in the top of the eighth, Michael Sandoval (2-for-4, 3 RBI, R) homered, scoring Caleb Eills and Dylan Zavala to give the Mounties a 4-1 lead. The Huskies responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning but were unable to score again in the bottom of the ninth.

Steven Ordorica (5-1) earned the win for Mt. SAC, throwing 4.1 innings in relief of starter Matt Garcia (4.2 IP, 1 K). Ordorica struck out three while surrendering two hits.

Pasadena and the Mounties finished tied at 14-8 and co=champions, Mt. SAC will receive the higher seed by virtue of beating the Lancers two out of three on the season.

Friday's win secures the Mounties a spot in the California Community College Athletic Association postseason tournament. The Mounties recieved the #8 seeding and will host #9 Santa Ana Dons this weekend (5/3-5/4) in a best of three series. Mt. SAC advanced to the tournament's final four in 2018 before bowing out to Orange Coast in the semifinal round of the double-elimination state championships.
