Mounties close out three-game series against PCC with pair of wins

(Walnut, CA) Following a 17-6 loss to Pasadena (20-11, 12-6) on Tuesday, Mt. SAC (18-16, 12-7) rebounded with a pair of South Coast Conference wins over the Lancers: 3-0 on Thursday at Pasadena and 3-2 on Saturday at Mazmanian Field.

The Mounties scored all the runs they needed to win in the top of the third, then added an insurance run in the seventh to pick up the SCC win over the Lancers.

Caleb Eills (2-for-4), Kyle Koontz (2-for-4, SB), Michael Sandoval (2-for-4, RBI, 2B), Dylan Zavala (1-for-3, 2 R), Derek Zavala (1-for-4, R), and Jacob Dominguez (1-for-3, SB) sparked Mt. SAC's offense en route to the victory.

Starter Noah Woodall (2-0) picked up the win for the Mounties, pitching six shutout innings while striking out six. Reliever Matt Garcia (3 IP, 5 K, 0 H) earned his first save of the season retiring all nine batters he faced.

Mt. SAC 3 Pasadena 2

With runners on first and third and two outs, Mt. SAC's Albert Luevano (2-for-4, 3 RBI) broke a 2-2 tie by singling home Dominguez in the bottom of the sixth for what proved to be the winning run.

Dylan Zavala (1-for-3, R, SB), Eills (1-for-3, R, 2 SB), and Sandoval (1-for-3) helped the Mounties' winning cause by playing well offensively. Luevano also stole a base for the Mounties.

Garcia (2-2) earned the victory for Mt. SAC, throwing two innings in relief of starter Tyler Hazlett (4 IP, 2 K) while striking out two. Steven Ordorica (3 IP, 3 K) picked up his fifth save of the season for the Mounties.

Mt. SAC has won three of its last four and will return to action on Tuesday, April 16, in an SCC contest at Citrus (14-17-1, 10-7) at 2:30 p.m. The two teams will face off again on Thursday, April 18, at Mazmanian Field 6 p.m.
