Long Beach comes from behind twice to earn SCC win over Mt. SAC

(Long Beach, CA) Following a 12-0 South Coast Conference loss to Long Beach City College at home on Tuesday, Mt. SAC looked to return the favor in an SCC matchup with the Vikings in Long Beach on Thursday. Such was not the case as Long Beach came from behind twice to capture a 10-7 victory.

Tied 1-1 heading into the fifth, the Mounties (15-13, 9-4) scored three runs on RBI singles from Mason Campbell (1-for-4, RBI, R) and Dylan Zavala (2-for-5, RBI, 3 R) and a ground out by Caleb Eills (3-for-5, RBI, R). Long Beach (17-10, 11-2) responded in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run rally of its own.

Three runs on a balk and a two-run single to right by Albert Luevano (2-for-5, 2 RBI) in the seventh gave Mt. SAC the lead, 7-5, but the Vikings retook the lead for good with five runs in the bottom half of the same inning.

Other top performances for the Mounties included Omar Veloz going 2 for 4 and 1 run along with stolen bases by Michael Sandoval and Kyle Koontz.

Steven Ordorica (3-1) got the loss for Mt. SAC, throwing two innings in relief of starter Noah Woodall (4.1 IP, 2 K, 4 ER).

The Mounties return to action on Tuesday, April 2, at Chaffey (16-10, 6-6) in an SCC game. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. The teams will play each other again on Thursday, April 4, at 5 p.m. at Mt. SAC and Saturday, April 6, at 12 p.m. at Chaffey.
