Mounties earn SCC win over Cerritos with ninth-inning rally

(Norwalk, CA) Mt. SAC (10-11, 4-2) scored its decisive runs in the ninth inning to secure a 3-1 South Coast Conference win over Cerritos (3-13, 2-4) on Tuesday.

With the score tied 1-1 and Caleb Eills (2-for-4, R) on third in the top of the ninth, Tyus Santa Anna (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) doubled to left-center scoring Ellis and giving the Mounties a 2-1 lead. Kyle Koontz came on as a pinch runner for Santa Anna and eventually scored on a two-out double to left by Jacob Dominguez (1-for-4, R, RBI, 2B), adding an insurance run for Mt. SAC.

Reliever Steven Ordorica (2-0) retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth to seal the Mounties' 3-1 victory. Ordorica threw three scoreless and hitless innings, struck out three, and picked up the win. Starter Jacob Kampen pitched 4.1 innings and struck out two.

Mt. SAC has won four of its last six and will return to action at home against Los Angeles Harbor (7-13-1, 2-3-1) on Thursday, March 14, in an SCC contest. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
