(Walnut, CA) Three-run first and fifth innings proved to be enough to lift host Mt. SAC (4-4) to a 6-3 win over Fullerton (2-6), Tuesday at Mazmanian Field.
Dylan Zavala provided an offensive spark for the Mounties, going 3-for-4 with a triple and accounted for two runs. Alex Gonzalez (1-for-4) and Michael Sandoval (1-for-3) accounted for the other Mountie runs, scoring two each, while Gonzalez also had an RBI and a double.
Tyus Santa Anna and Omar Veloz each went 1-for-4 on the day, knocking in two runs apiece.
Starting pitcher Christian Longoria (1-0) got the win for Mt. SAC, throwing seven innings, striking out six and allowing one earned run. Matt Garcia came on in relief, threw two innings and struck out three to secure the win.
With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the first, Veloz singled home two runs to put the Mounties up for good, 3-1. Mt. SAC added three more runs in the fifth behind RBIs by Santa Anna and Gonzalez.
The Mounties have won two of their last three and will host College of the Desert (2-8) on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 5 p.m.
