Mt. SAC Baseball Loses in 10 Innings to Cypress, 2-1

(Cypress, CA) The Mt. SAC Baseball team lost, 2-1, in ten innings, to Cypress College, in a nonconference matchup on Wednesday afternoon.

Mounties right fielder Elijah Greene continued his hitting hot streak with a third straight three-hit game, which included two triples and a double.

Greene, raised his average to .538 (14-26, 9 RBIs) and has the tenth highest average in the state.

After starting the season 3 for 11, Greene has gone 11 for 15 in the last four games, with seven RBIs.  He has hit safely in all seven games for the Mounties.

After Greene opened the fourth inning with a triple, Michael Sandoval had a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher, scoring Greene for the 1-0 lead.

Mt. SAC held a 1-0 lead through six innings before the Chargers pushed across a run in the bottom of the inning to tie it at 1-1.   The Chargers won it in the tenth with a walk-off single.

Prior to the walk-off winning hit, the Mounties challenged for the in the top half of the inning with runners on second and third, but could not convert for the score.

Mt. SAC third baseman Michael Sandoval went 2 for 4, including an RBI.

Mt. SAC starting pitcher Wyatt Regis pitched six innings, scattered five hits, gave up a run and struck out three batters.

Matt Garcia suffered his first loss, allowing the game-winning run in the tenth inning.

Mt. SAC travels to Orange Coast College today for a 2:00 pm game.
