El Camino edges Mounties, 4-2

(Walnut) – By John M. Sherrard – For the third consecutive South Coast Conference game, the Mounties lost a close game, the latest a 4-2 loss to visiting El Camino College Tuesday night at Mazmanian Field.

The three losses were by five runs and sends the Mounties to a 2-8 SCC record and 9-16 overall.

Top hitters for Mt. SAC was sophomore catcher Johnny Juarez (Glendora HS) and sophomore first baseman Kory Brown (Charter Oak HS) with two hits each.

Freshman pitcher Matt Goytia (Don Lugo HS) started the game and went eight innings, allowing three runs and struck out three batters.

El Camino College (19-6, 8-2) took a 3-0 lead with a run in the second and two in the third before the Mounties closed to within one run, 3-2, in the fourth inning.

Scoring for Mt. SAC was Brown (2 for 4), who singled and came in on a sacrifice fly by sophomore right fielder D.J. Daniels (Bishop Amat HS) to trail, 3-1.

Sophomore center fielder Anthony Seminaris (Ayala HS) doubled and came home on a single by freshman left fielder Jimmy Frazier (West Covina HS) to close with a run, 3-2.

El Camino scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth for the final, 4-2 score.

Warriors' right fielder Nick Sablock led both teams with three hits in the game.

The three-game series concludes today (Friday) with a double header at Mt. SAC due to the rainout at El Camino on Thursday. The regularly scheduled game on Saturday will also be played today. El Camino will be the home team in the first game at 2:30pm and Mt. SAC will be the home team at 5:30pm.
