Long Beach, Calif. – It was a successful day on the sand for the Mt. SAC Women's Beach Volleyball Team as they defeated Cerritos 4-1 and LA Harbor 5-0 on Friday, March 13.
Mt. SAC 4, Cerritos 1
The game with Cerritos proved to be a battle, with three of the five courts going the distance in tightly contested three-set matches.
At the No. 1 pair, Emma Carson and Eva Fisher dropped the opening set to Roselyn Tobie and Roselia Cazares, 16–21, but rallied to take the next two sets 21–16 and 15–13 to earn the point for the Mounties.
The No. 2 pair also went to three sets, but Cerritos came away with the win. Kayla Staveley and Morgan Wilson fell in the first set 16–21, bounced back with a 21–15 victory in the second, and narrowly dropped the third set 15–11.
Playing up a spot at No. 3, Jasmyn Stampley and Bella Fairley delivered a clutch performance. After taking the first set 21–19 and dropping the second 14–21, they battled through extra points in the third to secure a thrilling 19–17 win.
The Mounties dominated the bottom courts to seal the team victory.
At No. 4, Mayah Tiscareno and Jeanie Rhodes controlled their match from start to finish, winning 21–16, 21–12 over Danna Higuera and Liz Beltran.
Bella Ross and Kacey Worcester were just as excellent at No. 5 with a strong 21–18, 21–11 win against Isabella Torres and Priscilla Castillo.
Mt. SAC 5, LA Harbor 0
The Mounties kept the momentum going in their second match of the day, sweeping LA Harbor in dominant fashion.
Carson and Fisher cruised past Laila Jackson and Sam Hernandez 21–10, 21–9 at the No. 1 spot.
Staveley and Wilson played the only three-set match of the round. After winning the first set 21–11 and dropping the second 17–21, they bounced back with a commanding 15–6 win in the third over Iliana Lopez and Susan Ruiz.
At No. 3, Stampley and Fairley continued their strong play, defeating Noely Sanchez and Jarady Canales 21–14, 21–8.
The last two pairs never even allowed their opponents to get into double digits, proving the dominance in the bottom half of the ladder.
Tiscareno and Rhodes rolled to a 21–9, 21–8 win over Julia Sanchez and Mylah Goods at No. 4.
At No. 5, Kacey Worcester teamed up with Veronica Estrada to finish the sweep with a dominant 21–3, 21–8 victory over Kaylee N. and Janessa Ferguson.
