Mt. SAC Earns 4-1 Win Over OCC, Drops Match to Ventura

Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. San Antonio College Beach Volleyball Team split a pair of matches Friday, February 20, earning a 4-1 victory over Orange Coast College before falling 4-1 to Ventura College. With these results, the Mounties move to 8-4 overall. Orange Coast drops to 3-5, while Ventura improves to 5-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Mt. SAC delivered a strong overall performance in the opening game, claiming four of five courts.

At the No. 2 spot, Kayla Staveley and Yaretzi Silva edged out a tight 21-19 first set before cruising to a 21-10 second-set win over Ella Hardstaff and Nika Safavi.

The No. 3 pair of Sydney Valentine and Morgan Wilson controlled their match from start to finish, winning 21-14, 21-15 against Sanampreet Samra and Brynn Bisher.

Jeanie Rhodes and Mayah Tiscareno paired up in the No. 4 spot for 21-17 and 21-13 wins over Dezi Butler and Michaela Lucas.

The most dominant showing of the match came at No. 5, where Jasmyn Stampley and Bella Fairly rolled to a commanding 21-5, 21-11 win against Anjali Clinton and Scarlett Russell.

The only point for the OCC Pirates came at No. 1, where Emma Carson and Eva Fisher battled in a competitive match against Kayla Ihrig and Sophie Viena, but fell 21-18, 21-15.

The second match of the day proved more challenging, with three courts going the distance in tightly contested battles.

Mt. SAC's only victory came at the No. 5 spot, where Bella Ross and Veronica Estrada earned a 21-19, 21-10 win over Callie Cahill and Chelsea Torres.

At No. 1, Carson and Fisher rebounded from a 21-17 first-set loss against Shai Daniels and Viola Barrios to take the second 21-13 before narrowly dropping the third 15-12.

Staveley and Silva claimed a close 21-19 opening set at No. 2 with Jocelyn Alfar and Sadie Lishman, but fell 21-14 and 15-11 in the final two sets.

In the No. 3 spot, Valentine and Wilson won the first set against Addison Olson and Manaye Ramessar 21-17, dropped the second 21-13, and came up just short in a 16-14 third-set battle.

At No. 4, Stampley and Fairly fell to Madison Mierau and Beira Boyso in straight sets, 21-10 and 21-18.

NEXT UP:

Mt. SAC opens conference play at home on Friday, February 27, hosting El Camino College at 10:00 a.m., followed by a matchup against Santa Barbara City College at 12:00 p.m.
