Walnut, Calif. -- The Mt. San Antonio College Mounties are leading the State Associations Division for both the NATYCAA Daktronics Cup and the Learfield Directors’ Cup, amassing 104.5 points at the halfway mark of the year.
The Daktronics Cup honors excellence in two-year college athletics, measuring success in championship competition across all sports in California, Oregon and Washington. The competition is divided into three categories: NJCAA Scholarship, NJCAA Non-Scholarship, and State Associations (CCCAA and NWAC).
Mt. SAC has been awarded a total of 13 3C2A NATYCAA Daktronics Cups out of 20 titles since its establishment in the 2003-2004 season. The Mounties have emerged victorious for 11 consecutive years and are well-positioned to extend their streak.
The Learfield Directors’ Cup, awarded annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), recognizes overall athletic success among colleges and universities nationwide. Mt. SAC previously won the Learfield Cup in 2014 and secured a third-place finish last year.
Strong performances in fall championships—winning titles in women’s golf and men’s wrestling, securing second place in men’s cross country and football, and earning third place in women’s cross country—have propelled the Mounties to the top of the standings.
Sierra College (Rocklin, Calif.) currently sits in second place with 82 points, while American River College (Sacramento, Calif.) follows closely behind with 81 points.
As the Mounties prepare for postseason action in men’s and women’s basketball and as the spring sports season gets underway, they remain on track to capture their 12th consecutive Daktronics Cup and a second Learfield Cup.
