Walnut, Calif. – It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of two former Mt. San Antonio College student-athletes, 24-year-old Justin Beltran of Montclair and 23-year-old Jena-Marie Ortiz of La Verne. The young couple was vacationing in Lake Tahoe to celebrate Valentine's Day when they were involved in a tragic car accident in Lyon County, Nevada.
The crash occurred on the morning of February 15, 2025, on State Route 339 near Yerington. According to investigators, a northbound vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the car Justin was driving. Both he and Jena-Marie suffered critical injuries and were rushed to the hospital. Justin passed away on February 16, and Jena-Marie on February 17.
Justin, a former track and field athlete, and Jena-Marie, a former softball player, were not only talented competitors but also dedicated teammates who made a lasting impact on the Mt. SAC Athletics community. Their hard work, passion, and sportsmanship inspired those around them.
