Mt. SAC Names Five Athletes of the Year Following Championship-Filled Season

Walnut, Calif. – As the 2024-2025 school year and athletic season come to an end, Mt. San Antonio College is celebrating a year filled with historic achievements. The Athletics Department proudly closes the season with six team state championships, 17 conference titles, 14 individual state champions across various sports, and dozens of other accolades for student-athletes and coaches.

With more than 800 student-athletes representing the college, selecting this year’s top honorees was incredibly difficult. After a year of extraordinary performances and dedication, five standout individuals have been named Mt. SAC Athletes of the Year:

  • Daisia Mitchell (Women’s Basketball)
  • Devin Miles (Football)
  • Paige Fast (Women’s Swimming & Diving)
  • Landon White (Baseball)
  • Julianna Vich (Women’s Tennis)

Daisia Mitchell – Women’s Basketball – Fall 2024

Sophomore guard and forward Daisia Mitchell captained the Women’s Basketball Team to a state championship victory, averaging 14 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. Her shooting stats—46.1% from the field and 69.1% from the free throw line—helped her rack up 421 points, 246 rebounds, 110 assists, and 43 blocks this season. A repeat Mt. SAC Athlete of the Year, Mitchell is a two-time South Coast Conference Player of the Year, two-time WBCA First Team All-American, and two-time 3C2A All-Southern Region Player of the Year honoree. She will continue her academic and athletic career at Appalachian State University in the fall.

“Daisia was the centerpiece of our team,” Head Coach Brian Crichlow said. “Her presence on and off the court gave our team the confidence to accomplish our goal this year. We depended on her in a lot of areas, so it’s fitting that she was named Mt. SAC’s athlete of the year because she was our team’s athlete of the year.”

Devin Miles – Football – Fall 2024

Sophomore running back Devin Miles was a driving force behind Mt. SAC Football’s run to the 3C2A State Championship game. He led the division with 1,280 rushing yards—averaging 106.7 yards per game—and scored 15 rushing touchdowns. He added 247 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns to his impressive resume. Miles earned All-American First Team honors and Offensive First Team honors from the Southern California Football Association and is already training with Western Michigan University in Danville, Illinois.

Paige Fast – Women’s Swim & Dive – Spring 2025

Sophomore swimmer Paige Fast lived up to her name, playing a pivotal role in the Women’s Swimming & Diving Team’s first-ever 3C2A State Championship. She set a new South Coast Conference record in the 200 Backstroke (2:05.88) and helped the 400 Medley Relay Team break a 10-year-old record (3:58.62). Fast was named SCC Swimmer of the Year and became an All-American in six events. At the 3C2A State Championships, she earned top finishes in the 200 (1:48.11) and 400 (3:56.60) Medley Relays and placed third in the 500 Freestyle (5:11.87). Her times ranked among the top 16 nationally, including NJCAA results. Fast will continue her education and swim career at Biola University.

“Paige embodies everything one could hope for in a student athlete,” Head Swim Coach Marc Ruh said. “She excels in academics, supports her teammates wholeheartedly, leads with grace, maintains a positive and humble demeanor, and generously volunteers her time for all our aquatic events. Her talent is undeniable. Paige's departure will leave a void here. She truly is exceptional.”

Landon White – Baseball – Spring 2025

Freshman standout Landon White helped lead the Baseball Team to its first 3C2A State Championship title in six decades. He led the state in batting average (.481), hits (116), and doubles (33), earning MVP honors for both the South Coast Conference and the state championship tournament. White was also named to the Southern California All-Region First Team and received the Region Position Player of the Year award. Nationally, he was selected for the ABCA/Rawlings Pacific Association All-America First Team. He will continue his baseball career and education at Gonzaga University.

“Landon was amazing for us on and off the field this season,” said Head Coach John Knott. “The home run he hit in the 9th inning to tie the championship game is something I’ll never forget. But beyond that moment, he was consistently excellent and a great teammate throughout his time with us. He ended the year leading the state in several offensive categories, all while taking over 20 units during the spring semester to earn his AA degree. He was taking care of business both on and off the field.”

Julianna Vich – Women’s Tennis – Spring 2025

Sophomore Julianna Vich made her mark by winning back-to-back 3C2A Women’s Doubles State Championships alongside partner Paige Valenzuela. She earned First Team honors in both singles and doubles in the South Coast Conference and was named the SCC Player of the Year for her consistent excellence on the court.

These athletes have set high standards of excellence and embody the spirit of Mt. SAC Athletics. We thank them for their hard work, determination and commitment to their sports. It has been a privilege to watch them grow and succeed. We wish them continued success in all their future endeavors.
