Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo Crushes Pasadena 20-2 in Conference Showdown

Walnut, Calif. – Making a splash in dominating fashion, the Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo team delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday, October 1, overpowering Pasadena City College with a 20-2 victory at the Aquatics Center. With the win, the Mounties improve to 9-10 overall and remain undefeated in South Coast Conference play at 3-0. Meanwhile, the Lancers are still searching for their first win, dropping to 0-5 on the season and 0-3 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Mt. SAC wasted no time asserting dominance, exploding for nine goals in the first quarter alone. Standout performances came early from Kaylee Biehn (3 goals) and Jessica Luna (2 goals), as the Mounties shut out Pasadena in the opening frame.

The offensive onslaught continued into the second quarter with four more goals, including additional scores from Luna and Biehn, and two from Ivy Cervantes. Pasadena finally got on the board with a late first-half goal from Yahaira Martinez, bringing the halftime score to 13-1.

The Mounties stayed hot in the third period, tacking on four more goals—three of them from Arely Martinez, who made an instant impact after entering the game. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Riley McPheron held the Lancers scoreless during the quarter.

Pasadena's Yahaira Martinez struck again in the fourth, netting her second goal, but Mt. SAC responded immediately. Angelina Hernandez scored twice, and Arely Martinez added her fourth goal, sealing the 20-2 victory.

Mt. SAC was efficient and aggressive on offense, converting 20 of 31 shots, while Pasadena's goalkeeper Rae Jiao recorded an impressive 11 saves despite the barrage. On the defensive end, Mt. SAC goalkeepers Keira Bozek and Riley McPheron shared the cage, combining for 5 saves on just 7 shots faced.
