The Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo Team overpowered Palomar College with a 13-6 win on Friday, September 6, during the Palomar Tournament. The team took control early and maintained their advantage throughout the game.
Mt. SAC established their dominance in the first quarter with a strong offensive start. Lola Baiz scored first, assisted by Carolyn Kao, followed by two goals from Gianna Gomez, with assists from Vayda Saucedo and Maya Boiarsky, establishing a 3-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Mt. SAC continued their offensive momentum with three more goals. Kao netted two, both assisted by Gomez, and Saucedo added another, also assisted by Gomez. Palomar trailed 6-0, but made a strong comeback, scoring four goals before the half.
Mt. SAC extended their lead in the third quarter with three additional goals by Kao, Saucedo and Rachel Donahue, while Palomar only managed one goal during the period.
The Mounties continued their dominant performance in the fourth quarter with goals from Kao, Atty Omeyokan and two goals from Donahue. Palomar added one additional late goal in the fourth, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit, resulting in a final score of 13-6.
Notable performances included Carolyn Kao with four goals, Rachel Donahue with three, and Gianna Gomez and Vayda Saucedo each contributing two goals. Bethany Dougherty fiercely defended the net with 18 crucial saves.
This win improves Mt. SAC's record to 4-1.
