Walnut, Calif. – As South Coast Conference play continues, the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team added another win to their record with a 3-1 victory over East Los Angeles College on Friday, October 3. The Mounties improved to 11-5 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 2-0, while the Huskies dropped to 1-13 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mt. SAC came out dominant, easily taking the first two sets with identical scores of 25-9. The Mounties were efficient on offense, posting hitting percentages of .360 and .321 in the opening sets, putting immediate pressure on East LA.
With a comfortable lead, Head Coach Samantha Neely gave her bench players some well-earned court time in the third set. The Huskies capitalized on the opportunity and managed to take the set 25-21, pushing the match to a fourth.
East LA continued to fight, but the Mounties regained control. They closed out the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth set, sealing the 3-1 victory and keeping their perfect conference record intact.
Yaretzi Silva continued to shine, finishing with 13 kills, 3 service aces, and 6 digs. Sydney Valentine added 12 kills and 9 digs, while Emma Carson contributed 10 kills and 4 digs. On defense, Mayah Tiscareno led the way with 16 of the team's 73 total digs.
Setters Morgan Wilson and Isabella Ross combined for 39 assists, running a balanced and effective offense. Brittney Okorie led the team in net defense with 3 block assists. In the back row, Veronica Estrada and Brianna Reyna combined for 10 digs.
Making her season debut after returning from injury, Kelly Mei made an immediate impact, recording 2 kills on 2 attempts. Eva Fisher remained a steady force, notching 7 kills on 15 attempts with a strong .467 hitting percentage.
NEXT UP:
The Mounties are back on the court Wednesday, October 8, for what is expected to be their toughest South Coast Conference matchup yet, as they host Pasadena City College (13-3) at 6:00 PM. The match will also highlight Student-Athlete Mental Health Week, and all student-athletes are encouraged to come out and show their support.
