(Walnut, CA) Mt. SAC outside hitters Jessica Morse and Alysha Tullar were lethal at the net with 15 and 13 kills respectively, as they led the Mounties Volleyball Team to a 3-1 win over visiting East Los Angeles College Friday night October 12 in a South Coast Conference North match.

The Mounties, who were all wearing pink jerseys for Breast Cancer Awareness Night, improved to 7-11 overall and 1-2 in conference with the four set 27-25, 24-26, 25-21, 25-12 victory.

"Alysha and Jessie were solid all night, both picking up double doubles (Kills, Digs)" Mt. SAC Volleyball coach Ali Carey-Oliver said. "We're proud of how the girls kept their positive energy up throughout the match."

Morse had four service aces and 12 digs and Tullar served three aces and had 11 digs. Libero Malia Carr had a match-high 25 digs and five assists and setter Brianda Valdez (1 k, 2 Digs) had 20 assists. Setter Janderi Ceja added 17 assists for the Mounties. "Malia played solid defense all night," Carey-Oliver  added.

Shaianne Palos had seven kills, while Lindsey Lane and Kristi Mertins added six each.

In the first set, after the Huskies took a 2-0 lead, Mt. SAC reeled off seven consecutive points for the 7-2 lead. Highlighting the 7-0 run were two kills by Morse and four assists by opposite Ashly Velazquez. Velazquez (8 A) had four more assists in the set to aid the Mounties attack.

"Ashly started our offense well in the first set to get the squad going and we saw great swings from Kristi, Shai (Palos) and Lindsey," Carey-Oliver said.

"Brianda and Janderi did a great job showing the offense."

Later in the set with the score tied 25-25, Morse and Tullar had kills to win 27-25.

After Chaffey took the second set 26-24, the Mounties won the final two sets for the victory.

Mt. SAC will host Chaffey College in a South Coast Conference North match on Wednesday October 17 at 5:00 p.m.
