(Walnut, CA) Behind a balanced offensive attack, host and No. 2 seed Mt. San Antonio College (15-2-3, 7-0-2) coasted to a 5-0 win over No. 3 Pasadena City College (15-3-4, 7-2) on Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the second round of the South Coast Conference Tournament.
The victory earned the Mounties a spot in the tournament championship game against No. 1 Long Beach City College (13-0-5, 7-0-2) on Friday, Nov. 10, at LBCC. In their previous matchup on Oct. 13, the teams played to a 0-0 draw.
Brianna Bernal got things going for Mt. SAC against the Lancers on Tuesday with a goal at the 4:42 mark on an assist from Jasmine Delgado. Unassisted goals from Veronica Aquino (41:42), Kristin Mijares (77:16 and 82:50) and Delgado (85:41) rounded out the Mounties' scoring.
Goalie Anai Olmedo had two saves in 90 minutes for Mt. SAC, improving her record to 15-2-3 on the season.
Friday's title game will pit the SCC's division winners. In addition, the Mounties are ranked No. 4 in the state in the current California Community College Sports Information Association poll and the Vikings are ranked No. 5.
