Cerritos College Soccer field

(Norwalk, CA) In a South Coast Conference crossover game, Mt. San Antonio College (11-1, 3-0) won its ninth straight, defeating host Cerritos College (2-7-1, 0-3) by the score of 4-2 on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Audrie Mahassel scored the game's first goal at the 9:45 mark on an assist from Ayuka Toshimoto to put the Mounties up, 1-0. The Falcons tied the game with a goal at the 11:14 mark but wouldn't score again until late in the game. Goals from Kaylee Gutierrez (30:41, Toshimoto assist), Karissa Vela (37:39, Ynneli Gonzalez-Soriano assist), and Natalia Reyes (50:22, Izzy Montelongo assist) put Mt. SAC up, 4-1, before Cerritos scored the game's final goal at 78:29.

"Most of us are sophomores and we have that chemistry and just have high expectations this year," Mt. SAC sophomore midfielder Audrie Mahassel said. "We obviously want to surpass where we ended last year and have been putting in the work to achieve that goal."

"It took us a minute to get into it, especially since they play such a high line," Mt. SAC sophomore midfielder Kaylee Gutierrez said. "It took us a while how to get together, but in the end, we got a couple of goals and were able to finish finally."

Leila Pergrina (73 minutes, two goals allowed, one save) and Jennifer Sanchez (17 minutes) combined in goal for the Mounties.

"Our mindset as a coaching staff has always been to make sure that the girls were pushed to their limits," Mt. SAC Women's Soccer coach Juan Sanchez said. "Cerritos still has the state and national titles and you are still playing against that mentally, but for us to come in and get that result (4-2 win) is important. I'm very proud of the ladies."

Next up for Mt. SAC is an SCC crossover game at home against Long Beach City College (9-1-2, 3-0) on Friday, Oct. 14, at 5 p.m. The Vikings sit atop the SCC South Division standings while the Mounties lead the SCC North Division.
