Walnut, Calif. – In their first competition of the 2025 season, the Mt. SAC Wrestling team showcased their dominance at the Mt. SAC Duals over the weekend by splitting into two squads — Mt. SAC Maroon and Mt. SAC White — and finishing first and second, respectively. The event featured a competitive field that included Santa Ana College, Sierra College (Red and White), Imperial Valley College, and Palomar College Red.

Mt. SAC Maroon secured first place with 4 dual wins, 6 pins in a total time of 13:09, and 128 total match points, contributing to 83 team points. Mt. SAC White was equally competitive, recording 3 dual wins, 8 pins in 17:23, a tournament-high 234 match points, and 143 team points. Together, both squads put on a dominant display, outpacing all other programs in both individual and team performances.

Individually, several Mt. SAC wrestlers had standout performances. Roman Rodriguez, Maxximus Martinez, and Roman Loya each recorded two pins. Camilo Ramirez led the tournament in team points with 18, while Davonne Dixon, Roman Loya, Roman Rodriguez, Jacob Longcrier, and Aaron Martinez each contributed 17 points. Manuel Martir and Wendell Mitchell recorded the most single-match points for Mt. SAC with 18 and 13, respectively. Roman Loya topped all wrestlers in total match points with 39, followed by Jason Saenz (36) and Mitchell (35).

At 125 pounds, Camilo Ramirez (White) went undefeated at 3-0, with a fall over Lance Nguyen (Palomar) in just 1:48. Manuel Martir (Maroon) also impressed, going 2-0 with a tech fall and a pin.

In the 133-pound weight class, Davonne Dixon (White) also finished 3-0, highlighted by an 18-3 tech fall over Palomar's Hunter Haynes. Rylan Madrid (Maroon) went 2-0 with a tech fall and a forfeit win.

At 174 pounds, Jacob Longcrier (White) went 3-0, with one pin and an 18-2 tech fall, while Wendell Mitchell pinned Nathan Urbani of Sierra College (Red) in 4:52.

Roman Loya (White) led the 184-pound weight class with a perfect 3-0 performance, including two falls and a tech fall. Mitchell Semaan and Nathan Cruz (Maroon) also picked up wins, each earning a dominant finish.

In the 197-pound division, Aaron Martinez (White) was perfect at 3-0, earning a pin, tech fall, and a forfeit. Cody South (Maroon) added a win by decision, while teammate Michael Vassalle dropped a close 2-0 match.

At heavyweight (285), Dib Sawaya (White) went 1-1, securing a major decision before suffering an injury. Malohi Sipowicz (Maroon) had two hard-fought losses by decision.

While the team delivered a strong overall performance, Head Coach David Rivera remains focused on growth. "We did a good job, but we left some opportunities on the mat," Rivera said. "We could have gotten more pins and that's something we'll be working on. This was a solid start to the season, but I definitely see areas where we can improve. My focus isn't on what other teams are doing — it's on making sure our guys get better every single day. Winning is great, but progress is the priority."

The Mt. SAC Wrestling program once again proved its strength and depth, with both squads performing at a championship level. Stay tuned to see if the Mounties can go for a third straight state championship.
