Walnut, CA –The Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) Men's Wrestling Team delivered an outstanding performance at the 3C2A South Dual Tournament, securing first place with a decisive victory. The tournament, held on Saturday, October 19, saw Palomar College take second place, followed by Rio Hondo in third, Victor Valley College in fourth, and Cerritos College rounding out the top five.
Highlights of the tournament included standout performances by Maxximus Martinez, who went an impressive 3-0 in both the 157 and 165 weight classes, and Roman Loya, who also achieved a perfect 3-0 record in the 184-weight class.
The Mounties received a bye for round one and then opened the tournament with a commanding 49-6 victory over Lemoore College in the quarterfinals. Key performances came from Rylan Madrid, Jason Saenz, and Maxximus Martinez, all of whom secured wins by fall, establishing an early lead for the team.
Advancing to the semifinals, Mt. SAC continued their winning streak with a decisive 36-9 victory against Victor Valley. The match featured impressive technical falls from Brian Geiger and Jeremiah Strauss, further solidifying the Mounties' status as a top contender.
In the championship round, the Mounties showcased their dominance on the mat with a score of 34-9. After a challenging start, the Mounties rallied to clinch the title with a series of wins across various weight classes. Noteworthy moments included Aldo Quintero's dramatic fall in the 149-pound match and Roman Loya's dominant technical fall at 184 pounds, highlighting his impressive performance throughout the tournament.
