(Lemoore, CA) With 154.5 points, Mt. San Antonio College's bid for a second consecutive state title came up short as Fresno City College finished first with 214 points at the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships at West Hills College on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9 and 10. Southern California Wrestling Alliance Southwest Division rival Cerritos College finished third with 153.5 points.
Christopher Betancourt (125 pounds) took first place for the Mounties in his weight class while teammates Chris Calderon (125 pounds) and David Saenz (133 pounds) placed second in theirs. Third-place finishers for Mt. SAC included Billy Looney (149 pounds) and Nate Kendricks (197 pounds). Marcus Lobato (157 pounds) took fourth place in his class.
Due to their top-6 placings, each of these wrestlers qualify for All-American status.
The Mounties will return to action in the fall of 2023.
