Mounties win Santa Ana College Tournament; Five wrestlers win titles

(Santa Ana, CA) After opening the season with a tournament championship, the Mt. SAC Wrestling team has done it again.

The Mounties, who also won the West Hills tourney, came away with the victory at the Santa Ana College Tournament Saturday (October 2).

Mt. SAC came away with five first-place finishes out of 10 events.

The Mounties, who entered three teams, also had one second and five thirds.

Eighteen teams competed in the annual tourney.

Leading the way with a first-place finish for the A-team was Wetzel Hill (174), his second consecutive of the season in tournament action.

Hill won all three of his matches, which included a 17-0 technical fall, a 17-6 decision and a pin in the first period of the championship match.

He remains undefeated in tournament action with a 6-0 record this season and also won all three of his matches at the season-opening Mt. SAC Duals.

Finishing first for the B-team, also with 3-0 records, was: Jason Valencia (133), Juan Lopez (157), and Isaiah Vasquez (165). Also placing for the B-team was Jesse Garcia (3rd) in the 285 Lb. weight class.

The fifth, first-place finisher for the Mounties was Christopher Betancourt (125) of the C team. Nate Kendricks, of the A-team, finished third (197).

Mt. SAC continues tournament action at Modesto College on October 9.
