Chino Hills, Calif. – Following an impressive run through the 2024 season, the Mt. San Antonio College Women's Golf Team showed no signs of slowing down, proving once again their position at the top of the leaderboard.
They secured their latest victory at the two-day Southern California Regionals, held at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills on November 10-11. The Mounties posted a team total of 617, shooting 309 on Sunday and 308 on Monday. Their 53-stroke lead over second-place Orange Coast College (670) and 63-stroke advantage over third-place Moorpark (680) solidified their dominance.
With this win, Mt. SAC joins Orange Coast, Moorpark, Cuyamaca College, and Santa Barbara City College as the five teams advancing to the 3C2A Women's Golf State Championship, set for November 17-18 at Monarch Dunes Golf Club in Nipomo, beginning at 7:30 AM.
Team captain and standout performer, Kylie Lau, shot an even-par 74 on Sunday and followed it up with a stellar 70 on Monday, finishing with a two-round total of 144 to claim second place overall. Santa Barbara City College's Annie Betts, however, flipped Lau's scores, carding a 70-74 to take the top spot in a tiebreaker.
Natalie Neal finished in fourth place with rounds of 75 and 76, totaling 151, while Sophia Miller took sixth with a 76-79 performance for a total of 155. Kaitlyn Wang posted consistent 84s on both days, finishing with a 168, and Alana Lo recorded scores of 86 and 83 to finish with a 169. Julissa Garcia rounded out the team with a 96 on Sunday and a 92 on Monday, totaling 188.
Coach Art Guevara reflected on the tournament, saying, "The ladies played incredibly well and proved themselves to the competition. I'm so proud of how Sophia Miller has stepped up as our fourth player this year and secured the sixth place medal. She played great and her score combined with Kylie and Natalie created a huge gap between us and Orange Coast College."
Check back next weekend to see if the Mounties can capture the 3C2A Women's Golf State Championship, after finishing as runners-up last year. Good luck, Mounties!
