Mountie Women Golfers Place Fourth at South Coast Classic

(Santa Barbara, CA) In the opening tournament of the 2019 season, Mt. SAC freshman golfer Precious Saelee shot a even par (71), the third lowest round of the two-day Women's South Coast Classic on the Par-71 Buenaventura Golf Course in Ventura Monday August 26.

As a team, the Mounties finished fourth behind the same three teams that led after day one. CCCAA Defending State Champions College of the Canyons won with a sizzling 603 (75.3 Avg.), 39 strokes better than second place College of the Desert (642) and third-place Santa Barbara City College (647).

Saelee finished with a two-day total of 153 (82-71), good for a sixth-place finish overall.

The tournament low medalist was Haruka Koda with a 68 on day two with a 140 (72-68).

Mt. SAC's Katherine Chan tied for 11th with a 164 (84-80), followed by Cristina Liu with a 166 (84-82) for 11th. The other two Mt. SAC golfers were Lisa Romero 181 (92-89) and Kima Blake 218 (110-108).

After the first round, which was played at Olivas Links GC on Sunday August 25, Mt. SAC was in fourth place with a score of 342. Leading the eight-team field was Canyons (306), followed by Santa Barbara City College (333) and College of the Desert (334),

Paige Heuer of Canyons, led the 36-hole South Coast Classic at 1-under 71 after day one.

Saelee, playing her first college tournament, led the Mounties with an 82 which was good for an eighth-place tie among the 41 golfers. Saelee carded 10 pars and a birdie in her first college action.

She was followed closely, two strokes behind, by Cristina Liu (84) and Katherine Chan (84).
