Mt. SAC Women's Golf Team Place Fifth in Desert Classic

(Palm Springs, CA) In the sweltering 105 degree heat of Palm Springs where only three of 46 golfers broke 80 on the first day of the Annual Desert Classic at Tahquitz Creek Resort, the Mt. SAC Women's Golf Team finished in fifth in its second tournament of the season.

"I'm very proud of our team for battling through the Palm Springs conditions," Mt. SAC Women's Golf coach Greg Osbourne said. "We are ready to start our league competition."

Mt. SAC's Mackenzie Kelly (83) and Cristina Liu (83) were tied for 12th after the first round and ended up with a 167 and 170 respectively for the tournament. Brianna Rojo finished with a two-day total of 174.

The 5,206-yard course played long again on the second day as 34 golfers shot over 80.

College of the Desert won the tourney with a blazing 302 on the second day and finished 33 strokes ahead of Santa Barbara City College and Reedley, which finished in a tie for second.

Nine teams competed in the early-season tournament.

The Mounties will open up Orange Empire Conference play on Wednesday September 5 with match No. 1 at LA Royal Vista Golf Course in Walnut. Fullerton College will host the event.
