Mt. SAC Softball Defeats Cerritos, 8-3, in SCC Action

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Softball team exploded for five runs in the first inning en route to an 8-3 win over Cerritos College in a South Coast Conference game on Tuesday, February 27.

With the win, the Mounties improved to 9-6 overall and 1-1 in the SCC.

Leading the way for the Mounties were three players – Alyssa Rubalcava (2-4, 2 Rs, 2 RBIs, HR), Katie Griego (2-3, R, 2 RBIs), and Gabrielle Flores (2-3, RBI) – with two hits each.

Janis Espinoza (1-2, 2 Rs, SB) and Mercedes Alba (1-4, R, RBI) added a triple and a double, respectively, for Mt. SAC.

Sophomore Aleyna Urbina (3-5) pitched a complete game and struck out six for Mt. SAC.

Leading 6-0 in the fourth inning, Cerritos scored three runs to trail, 6-3, but the Mounties added two in the bottom half of the inning.

Highlighting the inning was a solo home run by Rubalcava and a single up the middle, scoring second baseman Amanda Esquivel to lead, 8-3.

Mt. SAC will host L.A. Harbor in an SCC game on Thursday, February 29.
