Mt. SAC Softball blanks Antelope Valley in a non-conference game

(Lancaster, CA) On the strength of a seven-run second inning, Mt. San Antonio College (20-5) cruised to a 9-0 non-conference win in five innings over host Antelope Valley College (17-12) on Wednesday, April 5.

Brianna Goris (2-3, R, 2 RBI) got the Mountie rally started in the second with a solo homer. Other offensive highlights from the inning included doubles by Ashley Diaz (1-2, R), Katelyn Olson (1-3, R, 3 RBI). and Desiree Bravo (1-3, R, 2 RBI).

Mt. SAC tacked on two more runs in the top of the third sparked by a one-out triple by Asia Chacon (2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI) that scored Kassandra Martinez (1-2, 2 R) who singled earlier in the inning. Chacon scored the game's final run in the same inning on a sacrifice fly to right by Olson.

In addition, Janis Espinoza stole a base in the third for the Mounties.

Striking out three and allowing just three hits in four scoreless innings, starter Aleyna Urbina picked up the win for Mt. SAC, improving her record to 11-2 on the season.

Ranked No. 5 in the most recent California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association state poll, the Mounties resume their South Coast Conference schedule at home with a doubleheader against Compton College (0-12, 0-12) on Thursday, April 6, at 1 p.m. Mt. SAC defeated the Tartars, 39-0, in five innings back on March 16.
