
(Compton, CA) With the longest winning streak in the state this season, the Mt. SAC Softball Team shutout Compton 9-0 in a South Coast Conference crossover game at the MLB Youth Academy Stadium.
Highlighting the 16th consecutive win for the Mounties was a one-hit shutout by Briana Wheeler along with a season-high 10 strikeouts.
Wheeler (9-0) struck out seven of the first 10 Compton batters and gave up only a fourth-inning single.
Wheeler ran her strikeout total to 60 for the season, which tied for ninth in the state.
Leading the way for the Mounties was catcher Adriana Ramirez (2-3, 3 R, RBI, SB) and third baseman Vicky Gutierrez (1-1, 3 RBIs, 2 BB).
The Mounties scored in four of the five innings in the eight-run rule victory.
Gutierrez highlighted the scoring in the fourth inning with a two-run single, scoring second baseman Nikki Soto (2 R, RBI) and Ramirez.
Mt. SAC scored four times in the fifth inning for the 9-0 lead and Wheeler struck out two of the three Compton batters in the bottom half of the inning for the win.
Mt. SAC's double-header on Saturday at College of the Canyons was rained out and the Mounties will host Cerritos on Tuesday.
