Walnut, Calif. – For the 12th consecutive season, the Mt. SAC Men's Cross Country Team continued their dominance, taking first place at the South Coast Conference Championships on Friday, October 31, on the home 4-mile course. The Mounties scored a team total of 24 points, outpacing Cerritos in second with 38 and Los Angeles Harbor in third at 80. In a field of 108 runners from across the SCC, Mt. SAC placed nine of the top 15 finishers, showing just how deep and talented this squad is.

The Mounties showcased their strength on the course, pulling away during the second round of switchbacks. Working together as a pack, they surged ahead to create separation from the competition. Their teamwork and focus on the challenging terrain carried them to a strong finish.

The team finished with a combined time of 1:47:33, averaging 21:31 per runner at a 5:23 mile pace, with only 28 seconds separating the top five scorers.

Jonah Botello led the way, finishing first overall in 21:13.5. He was followed by Derek Campos in fourth (21:25.3), Destino Gonzalez-Soto in fifth (21:36.1), Alfredo Vargas in sixth (21:36.2), and Alex Figueroa in eighth (21:41.5).

For their performances, Botello, Campos, Gonzalez-Soto, and Vargas earned All-SCC First Team honors, while Figueroa, Antonio Alcantar, Lucas Blevins, and Logan Berkley were named to the Second Team.

Mt. SAC's streak of 12 consecutive SCC men's titles ties the conference record for longest team championship run in any men's sport, previously set by Los Angeles City basketball (1996–2007) and Mt. SAC track and field (1997–2008). The program has now won 25 South Coast men's cross country championships, dating back to its first in 1984.

NEXT UP:

The Mounties will now set their sights on the SoCal Regional Championships on Friday, November 7, hosted by San Diego Mesa College.
