
San Marcos, Calif. – In another strong performance against top four-year programs, the Mt. SAC Men's Cross Country Team earned a 4th-place finish at the Cal State San Marcos Cougar Challenge on Saturday, September 13.
The Mounties posted a team score of 133 points, competing closely in a competitive field. Cal Poly Pomona claimed first place with 20 points, followed by Pomona-Pitzer in second with 59, while host San Marcos took third with 61 points.
Mt. SAC clocked a combined team time of 2:09:35 on the 8K course, with an average time of 25:55 and an average mile pace of 5:13.
Leading the way for the Mounties was Diego Varela, who finished 23rd overall with a time of 25:20.2. He was followed by Derek Campos, who placed 32nd in 25:42.0, and Logan Berkley, who crossed the line in 42nd with a time of 26:05.1. Bryce Jackson and Ethan McGarry finished back-to-back in 47th and 48th, posting times of 26:13.4 and 26:13.8, respectively. Rounding out Mt. SAC's top seven were Alex Figueroa, who placed 50th in 26:14.1, and Isaac Donis, who came in 53rd with a time of 26:21.8.
