Mountie Men's Cross Country Team Finishes In Third Place at 2016 CCCAA State Championships

(Fresno, CABoth Mt. SAC Men's and Women's Cross Country continued the longstanding cross country tradition with both teams finishing in third place finish at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championship.  One of the top and most consistent cross country programs in state community college history, the two 3rd place finishes represented the 49th and 50th state cross country championship trophies captured by Mounties.  The women scored 141 points with a team time of 1:36:29 and the men scored 120 points with a team time of 1:45:15

Trelani Waters, Mt. SAC's top men's finisher, ran the 4-mile Woodward Park Course in 20:51, earning All-American honors with his 13th  place overall finish.  The tight, 21 second, 5-man finish gap helped propel the team 3 points ahead of fourth place finisher Cuyamaca College.  The top 5 Mounties (Waters, Ben Gonzalez (18th), Manuel Fernandez (25th), Kevin Herrera (33th), Michael Dondalski (34th), Cesar Bermudez (38th)) all finished ahead of the fifth finisher of champion Riverside City College and runner-up, Glendale College.

The 3rd place finish for the women, marks the 12th top three and 18th top 5 finish in the Doug Todd (Head Coach 1995-present) coaching era.

On the women's side, Sophia Tsabadze was the top finisher for the Mounties (18:49), finishing in 13th place, earning All-American Honors.  Similar to the men, the top 5 Mt. SAC Women (Tsabadze, Crystal Jardines (27th), Danielle Murrieta (28th), Teresa Castillo (42nd), Yareny Ramos) (43rd) finished in 43rd place or lower on the 3 mile course.
