Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo drops two, wins two at Cuesta Tournament

(San Luis Obispo, CA) Following a pair of losses on the opening day of the Cuesta College Tournament on Friday, Sept. 22, Mt. San Antonio College (13-5) bounced back by winning two on the second day of competition on Saturday, Sept. 23.

On Friday, Orange Coast College (11-4) defeated the Mounties, 11-9, as did Golden West College (13-1) in the nightcap, 17-11. On Saturday, Mt. SAC defeated Merced College (2-17) and host Cuesta College (8-4) by the scores of 18-8 and 12-11, respectively.

California Community College Water Polo Coaches Association Athlete of the Week Alex Lopez and teammate Mikey McMillan led the Mounties with three goals each. At the same time, Ethan Brown, Aidan Gillooly and Brandon Fabrega added two each.

Austin Johnson led a group of five Mt. SAC goalies with six saves in 16 minutes.

Trailing 10-9 through three quarters, the Mounties scored three goals in the fourth to capture the win. With the game tied at 11, Gillooly scored the winning goal on an assist from: Lopez with 1:02 left to play.

Fabrega led the team with four goals and Lopez added three.

Goalie Elijah Swaim played all 32 minutes, making six saves.

Mt. SAC will next compete in the Riverside City College Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6-7. Pairings and opponents have yet to be announced.
