(Walnut, CA) The offensive explosion continues for the 2023 version of the Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo team, as they dominated visiting Cal Tech, 22-3, Friday (Sept. 8).

Averaging nearly 20 goals per game, Mt. SAC improved to 7-2 with the win.

Leading the way is the 3C2A top goal scorer in the state freshman utility player Alex Lopez with eight goals on 10 shots. He also had seven assists and seven steals in the game. Lopez is also the top assist leader in the state with 26 and No. 1 in steals with 24.

Lopez has an even 50 goals this season.

With three goals apiece were sophomore utility Brandon Fabrega and freshman center George Roby-Unkovich. Fabrega is fifth in the state with 33 goals and fourth with 19 assists.

"It's pretty cool (to play with Fabrega)," said Lopez of his teammate, who was the scoring leader last season for the Mounties. "If there's nothing on the 4-5 side, then I can just swing it and he can do his thing and score."

Lopez has plans to play at the next level in the future at USC.

"It's exciting and I'm just trying to stay in the best shape possible and be able to play at the next level," added Lopez. "This pool is pretty awesome and pretty sweet.

"I'm pretty confident that we will go far."

Fabrega complimented the play of Lopez.

"Alex is an awesome player," Fabrega said. "It really takes a lot of pressure off of me to be able to rely on someone so heavily as I do with Alex and I have a lot more fun out there."

Sophomore driver Jude Solis and freshman utility Mikey McMillan each had a pair of goals, while four other players had a goal each.

In goal was sophomore goalie Austin Johnson, who notched his fifth win (No. 1 in state). He is also No. 3 in the state with 74 saves.

The Mt. SAC defense allowed only eight shots in the game by Cal Tech.
