Men, Women Water Polo Opens Season with Conference wins over El Camino

Both the men and women water polo teams took to the road for their first games of the season and swept host El Camino College in a South Coast Conference opener Wednesday afternoon.
In the early game the women won, 19-4, followed by the men defeating the Warriors, 24-6.
Leading the way for the women was freshman 2-meter specialist Kayla De Herrera (Bonita HS) with five goals.
The men were led by sophomore utility man Scott Mc Dill (Walnut HS, Air Force Academy) with eight goals, seven of which were the first seven of the game.
The women, which finished atop the conference standings tied with LBCC last year, will travel to American River College in Sacramento Thursday through Saturday to compete in the River Rage Tournament. The Mounties are scheduled to play host American River College on Friday.
The men, which finished third in conference play last season, will play in the Citrus College tournament Friday and Saturday.  The Mounties, who will play at their home pool on campus, will play San Diego Miramar at 10:00 am and Fullerton College at 12:20 pm on Friday.
They will host their own tournament next Friday and Saturday.
Also scoring for the Mountie women in the win over El Camino was sophomore attacker Elizabeth Keane(Corona HS) with four goals, followed by three players, all freshmen, with two each: Julia Pruitt (Ayala HS),Janeane Chagolla (Rowland HS) and Alexis Aguirre (Rowland HS).
In the men's win over El Camino, other scoring leaders were: freshman utility man Roman Aceres (Centennial HS, Beaumont) with five goals, while sophomore utility man Mike Meza (Chino HS) had three.
The first home conference games for both the women and men will be Wednesday September 14th vs. Rio Hondo College at 3:00 and 4:15 respectively.
